BEE CLASSES


Farm Tour VISIT A REAL BEE FARM
Bee Charmers owned and operated by John Fendley and Theo Bill who currently manage over 100 hives of honeybees.  We beekeepers offer individual and group tours from April through October of our bee farm emphasizing on the history and education of the honeybee highlighting honey extraction, candle making, planting for bees and working with bees.  Learn about by-products made using beeswax and honey. See how a hive is assembled and used by the bees. Sample honey. Followed by refreshments of honey scones and lavender/honey lemonade. 2 hours Cost $25

BASIC BEEKEEPING
This class will cover: Getting started, ABC's of a honey bee, equipment needed/how it is used, equipment suppliers, breeds of honey bees, where to get your bees, installing a package of bees, protective clothing, tools needed, hive location, recognizing brood/honey and hive management. 6 hour class. Includes a searchable, fully printable CD containing easy to follow lessons on beekeeping, bee dictionary, Power Point Presentation, an the following books: Beekeeping Made Easy & Beekeeping 101-301 by Dana Stahlman, Better Bees by Jay Smith, 40 Years Among the Bees by Dr. C.C. Miller, and The History of Bees by Dana Stahlman. Class Cost $75

INTERMEDIATE BEEKEEPING
This class will cover, spring management, honey flow, pest control, equipment maintenance, re-queening, swarm management,... Includes a searchable, fully printable CD containing easy to follow lessons on beekeeping, bee dictionary, Power Point Presentation, an the following books: Beekeeping Made Easy & Beekeeping 101-301 by Dana Stahlman, Better Bees by Jay Smith, 40 Years Among the Bees by Dr. C.C. ORGANIC BEEKEEPING
Organic Beekeeping methods include treatments using natural materials, honeybee nutritional supplements and a system of specialized beekeeping practices which promotes strong honeybee colonies. Everything used in Organic Beekeeping may be eaten and/or handled safely by both honeybee and bee keeper.We have no need of poisons or pesticides. You will learn: Pest control with essential oils, brood spraying, to paint woodenware or not, why plastic frames out gas VOCs, other forms of non-toxic pest control,

PLANTING FOR BEES
Ever want to know what you can plant to help your bees bring in more pollen and nectar? You can increase the productivity in your hives if you know what to plant. How about planting a landscape that will also help out native pollinators and attract humming birds? Learn how to not only plant bee friendly plants/trees, but how to grown them, when to plant them and how to save valuable seed. Learn about valuable native nectar/pollen sources with no maitance or watering. Class Length 2 hours. Many plants and seed will be on sale after the class. Class Cost $25

CANDLE MAKING
Make your own candle to take home.

ART ON BEE BOXES
This is a great way to relax in the bee garden and paint your favorite things...bees and flowers! Truth be told you can paint anything you like, but we have some helpful tips on preparing the wood for your paint job and how to protect it after your masterpiece is done. An artist will be on hand to give helpful tips and show you inspiring techniques for painting honey bees. Hive body (bee box) and paints provided. Class length 2 hours. Refreshments served in the garden. Class Cost $65
